ABRAXAS ACADEMY
Charlotte Howarth and I have built a community of makers and mentors we had both longed for in the early stages of our career but found it almost impossible to access.
The Abraxas Academy offers students the unique opportunity to train with two highly respected teachers, who compliment each other by their differing specialisms and their personalities.
We are committed to delivering simple, straight forward, accessible and practical information to all abilities. We have the firm belief that stone carving should be fun, and particularly encourage those whose may have taken a break from their career for personal reasons, or those individuals who cannot access full time education.
We are particularly interested in professional carvers who have some experience, but who would be interested in developing their portfolios for diversification.
We are at present building a Continued Professional Development programme of standalone masterclasses, that cover many of the skills professional carvers need but often must teach themselves. Such as:
- Pointing machines and traditional copying techniques
- Gilding
- Maquette design and building
- Portfolio building
- Letter drawing and design
- How much should I charge?
- Workshop set up
